Most garage door openers come with a wireless keypad that you can set a personal code for and gain access without having your car around, and it can also be helpful to allow access to a handyman, a plumber, or similar service to gain access when you are not present.

Also available are garage door openers with battery backup, so you can operate the door even in the event of a power failure, and some have a Bluetooth function that allows you to check if your garage door is open or closed, and open or close your garage door from nearly anywhere. This is a super handy feature and will be a relief to anyone that is like me that had to drive back home to confirm the garage door was indeed closed!
