Tile is a great finish for floors, backsplashes, showers and bathrooms, walls, and even patios,…sometimes. Like most other projects that are long lasting, with a tile project it is best to pick out traditional, classic designs that will be in style as long as the tiles lasts. Pick quality tiles, setting materials, and grout materials to also last a very long time.
Tile projects are beautiful, versatile, durable, and can last for decades. Especially when they are done properly. Proper layout to avoid sliver cuts, having the design run as centered in the space as possible, substrate prep to ensure a nice flat finish with no significant lippage (where one tile edge is higher than an adjoining one), running tile under door jambs and baseboards are all components of a high quality plan and well executed tile project.
Careful consideration, excellent design choices, and top-quality materials will ensure that the tile project not only comes out looking great and lasts for a very long time, but has an acceptable, even desirable appeal for quite possibly decades. Because while there is a significant amount of labor in a first rate tile setting project, to take one up and change it is no mean feat!
